there was a slash across the sky tonight, a dividing line between pale blue and a deep gray. a thunderstorm, the first one since late fall and i walked home with the scent of fresh rain, flowers and mulch all around me. the air was heavy and ripe and it filled me up inside.
and i kept looking around me in all directions, i wanted to see
everything and while i wished i had my camera, i was more happy to really be inside that moment and not a step back observing. there were droplets from still-naked tree branches falling and casting circles into puddles made from broken concrete and dirt. there were cars splashing water up in the air as they hit potholes or turned corners too quickly. horns were blaring. trains were moaning. the sky was rumbling.
there were splashes of purple and yellow against a deep brown. there were blossoms everywhere, white with hints of fuschia, the force of the rain and wind causing them to fall and carpet the ground.
a window is open, i invited the night inside and she's pleasuring me with her company.
it was 85 degrees today and rain water kissed my naked feet.
i'm more quietly content than happy tonight. my smile is true, though.
there are changes coming and i think it's exciting.

“What is REAL?” asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery fender, before Nana came to tidy the room. “Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?”
“Real isn't how you are made,” said the Skin Horse. “It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.”
“Does it hurt?” asked the Rabbit.
“Sometimes,” said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. “When you are Real you don't mind being hurt.”
“Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,” he asked, “or bit by bit?”
“It doesn't happen all at once,” said the Skin Horse. “You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand.”
